Khwai – Where Water and Wilderness Meet

Nestled on the edge of the Okavango Delta, Khwai is a realm of shimmering waterways, ancient dead tree forests, open floodplains and wildlife-rich grasslands. The Khwai area is renowned for its remarkable predator activity and thriving populations of elephant, leopard, lion and African wild dog with a combination of permanent water and diverse habitats creating exceptional opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography. Animals are often encountered against beautiful natural backgrounds, while the waterways and woodland provide constantly changing environments in which to work.

Every game drive holds the promise of a new story waiting to unfold – from a leopard resting in the branches of an ancient tree to elephants moving through the water at sunset, Khwai offers the kind of encounters that wildlife photographers dream about.

Savuti – The Kingdom of Giants

Few places in Africa have captured the imagination of wildlife enthusiasts quite like Savuti. Part of Chobe National Park, Savuti is a landscape of vast open plains, woodland, rocky outcrops and seasonal waterways and is particularly famous for its large elephant herds, powerful lion prides and dramatic predator-prey interactions, including the famous elephant-hunting lion prides. Here, the scale of the landscape becomes part of the photographic experience; a pride of lions silhouetted against the morning light, elephants gathering around a waterhole beneath a blazing African sky or a lone predator crossing an endless marsh plain. Savuti provides the opportunity to photograph not only individual animals, but the relationship between wildlife, landscape and environment.

Two Destinations. One Journey.

The combination of Khwai and Savuti allows us you experience two distinctly different wildlife environments during a single safari. Rather than spending the entire trip in one location, we move through the wilderness, following the landscapes and wildlife that make northern Botswana so remarkable, and the journey between the two regions is itself part of the adventure, offering opportunities to experience changing habitats and the unpredictability that makes an African safari so special. No two days in the bush are the same and that is exactly how it should be.

Photographing the Wild

Wildlife photography is about far more than getting the perfect exposure or a sharp photograph, it is about understanding behavior, anticipating a moment, reading the light and telling a story through an image. Our approach to photographic guidance is therefore practical and personal, and rather than following a rigid classroom-style program, tuition takes place in the field, in real situations, as the opportunities unfold. One moment you may be working on shutter speed to capture an elephant’s movement while the next, you may be discussing composition as a leopard moves through a woodland clearing. Every guest has different experience, equipment and photographic goals, and guidance will be adapted accordingly. Sometimes the best photograph is the one you take and sometimes it is the moment you simply put the camera down and experience what is happening in front of you.

An Authentic Wilderness Experience

Our exclusive tented mobile camps place you in the heart of the wilderness while maintaining exceptional comfort. Spacious en-suite safari tents (with private toilet and bucket shower for every tent), comfortable beds, hot bucket showers, delicious chef-prepared meals and evenings around the campfire create the perfect balance between adventure and comfort. There is something uniquely special about a mobile safari rather than staying in a permanent lodge surrounded by the infrastructure of a larger tourism operation, our camp becomes part of the wilderness – exclusively set up for our group.

As darkness falls and the sounds of Africa fill the night, you experience the bush in a way that feels intimate, immersive and wonderfully removed from the outside world.
