Leopards of Musekese

Venture into one of Africa’s last great wildernesses located in the heart of Zambia on our Leopards of Musekese Photo Safari. On the easter banks of the Kafue River, lies one of Africa’s highest leopard population locations! Around the Musekese Camp, a total of 12 leopard’s can be seen, making it one of our continents highest density of leopard, and what makes it even more interesting is the overlapping of male leopard territories. Experience ‘Leopard Lagoon’ in front of your luxury tented camp where leopards typically like to hunt the local Puku populations. This safari combines luxury, spectacular photography and the value of conservation as you meet the incredible research team behind Musekese Conservation Program.
Zambia’s Kafue National Park is one of our planets greatest hidden treasures. Covering more than 22,000 square kilometres, it is one of the largest and most diverse national parks on the continent, yet remarkably, very few visitors experience its vast wilderness each year. Endless miombo woodlands, pristine rivers, expansive floodplains and ancient forests combine to create an ecosystem unlike anywhere else in Africa, a place where nature still dictates the rhythm of every day.
Our Leopards of Musekese Photo Safari has been specifically designed for photographers who dream of experiencing truly wild Africa away from the crowds combined with exceptional photography and an authentic African safari experience.
Over six unforgettable nights, we will explore the remote reaches of the park from the exceptional Musekese Camp, searching for Kafue’s remarkable predators while enjoying one of Zambia’s finest safari experiences. Unlike many safari destinations, Kafue remains wonderfully uncrowded and here, you may spend an entire morning with a pride of lions or follow a leopard through the woodland without encountering another vehicle. It is this exclusivity and authenticity that makes Kafue one of Africa’s most rewarding photographic destinations.

Musekese Camp: Where Luxury Meets Authenticity

Hidden on the edge of a beautiful lagoon in one of Kafue’s most productive wildlife areas, Musekese Camp perfectly captures the spirit of an authentic African safari with a luxurious touch. With only 5 spacious luxury safari tents, the camp offers an intimate and highly personalized experience. Each tent features comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms with flushing toilets, hot showers, and sweeping views across the surrounding wilderness. The camp operates almost entirely on solar power, reflecting its commitment to sustainability while maintaining every modern comfort.
The welcoming lounge and dining area overlook leopard lagoon, where elephants, hippos and countless bird species are often seen throughout the day and even when relaxing between game drives, wildlife is never far away. What truly sets Musekese apart is its remarkable location – until relatively recently, this remote corner of Kafue remained virtually unexplored by tourism. Years of dedicated conservation work have transformed it into one of Zambia’s premier wildlife areas while preserving the sense of solitude and wilderness that makes it so special.

What Makes this Tour Unique?

During our 6 night Leopards of Musekese photo safari, guests have the opportunity to experience 3 different styles of game viewing – all of which are exceptional. We offer the following activities, which are not pre-booked however can be booked on site to accommodate guests and what is going on during safari. For instance, if a leopard has been found on game drive, however you have booked a boat cruise, we can change the booking to do a game drive instead to accommodate photography. Bookings are flexible and can be arranged within 6 hours of activity.

This tour offers you:

  • Game Drives in the Musekese region of Kafue (exceptional game viewing with high density of leopard).
  • Boat cruise on the Kafue River (exceptional for birds but also frequent leopard sightings on afternoon cruises).
  • Photographic hide (fantastic for elephant, birding and the odd predator).

Exceptional Wildlife Photography

This safari has been specifically designed for wildlife photographers interested in the big cats, particularly the leopard. As the name states – Leopards of Musekese – we will be focusing on leopard photography on a safari designed for big cats, wild dogs and hyenas.
While leopards remain our primary focus, the diversity of wildlife is extraordinary, Musekese also boasts extraordinary bird life, and rare species such as Pel’s Fishing Owl can be seen on a boat cruise along the banks of the Kafue River.

Musekese – A Conservation Success Story

One of the most inspiring aspects of Musekese is its deep connection to conservation. The camp was established alongside long-term conservation initiatives that have helped restore wildlife populations throughout this region of northern Kafue. Increased protection, scientific research and close collaboration with local communities have resulted in significant improvements in both wildlife numbers and predator sightings over the past decade. By joining this safari, you are directly supporting sustainable tourism and helping protect one of Africa’s last truly wild landscapes.
Besides the long-term conservation program already started by Musekese Camp and Conservation, Rhulani Photo and Film are also busy with our own productions in the form of photography and documentary film making, as we capture one of Africa’s most incredible wildlife regions.
